6th Graders Learn About Digital Citizenship and Online Safety

Our local Crime Victim Assistance Center's educators spent some quality time talking with 6th graders about Social Media, online safety, online reputation, and digital citizenship recently. This interactive presentation involved getting student to reflect on the positives and negatives of online media. Students had some good laughs thanks to the presenters’ great sense of humor while also learning about online dangers, empathy, appropriate behavior online, as well as online reputation.  One useful take away for students from the presentation was Stop, Block, and Tell. This is the sequence of behaviors students should utilize when they encounter inappropriate or dangerous behavior online.

Parents looking to learn more about the presentation can check out the attached (see below) pamphlet that will be sent home with students. This pamphlet is full of useful ideas about managing online behavior as well as other online resources parents may want to consider using.
