PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING ~ 1 CREDIT
This class will explore a number of engineering fields, including automotive (cars), electrical, mechanical (machines and how they work), civil (structures) and others based on student interest. Students will become engineers in each area to solve problems while paying attention to material properties, physics, chemistry, forces, and ethics. Projects include: Worlds Slowest Drag Race, Structure Building, Catapults, Robotics and the chance to work on one of the Electrathon Race Cars. POE is a higher level course designed for the above average, motivated student. Pre-requisite: DDP and Algebra Regents or teacher approval
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ~ ½ CREDIT
It’s a boat! It’s a car! It’s a plane! This class is all about things that move. Activities include projects that fly (RC plane, flight simulator software, planes and hot air balloons), float (mini power boats), and drive (CO2 cars). If time allows there will also be a large class project. Past projects include full size canoes and a hovercraft.
MATERIAL PROCESSING ~ ½ CREDIT
Students taking this class will learn how to safely operate working machines and tools to create projects out of wood. During the second half of the course students will be able to create projects of their choice including furniture. Pre-requisite: DDP or teacher approval
ADVANCED MATERIAL PROCESSING ~ ½ CREDIT
After a brief review of Material Processing, students taking this class will learn some advanced wood working techniques and will be able to create projects of their choice including furniture. re-requisite: MATERIAL PROCESSING
MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS ~ ½ CREDIT
You will design a project(s) that could be sold in the real world. Students hold positions in the company and create a factory. Positions in the company would design, develop, prototype, manage people, resources, and finances, market, and produce the project.Prerequisite: Material Processing or teacher approval
COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS ~ ½ CREDIT
Students will explore different forms of communication including print, radio and video media. Students will plan, create media and edit while generating presentations that include a photo essay, 3D animation, a commercial/instructional video and a video project. Students will also explore graphic presentation and advertising.
