Through a $2,500 grant obtained from First Investors, a “packing backpacks” event was held on Homecoming Day. More than 100 backpacks filled with school supplies were made available for students in particular need. Thanks to the generosity of the Vestal Walmart, supplies were purchased at or near cost. High school students helped unload the supplies and sort them out in preparation for packing. The backpacks were then filled with paper, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, folders, markers, highlighters, pens, pencils, rulers, calculators, erasers, scissors, and glue sticks.
