Harpursville pair selected for P-TECH program

The Harpursville Central School District is pleased to announce that two of our students have been accepted to join the first cohort of the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program.

Brock McWherter and Manuella DiLuzio applied for this highly selective program and, upon review by a panel of guidance counselors from the region, were accepted. The process involved using a 10-point rubric based on five criteria: reason for participating based on student essay and statement, transcript, letters of recommendation, family support, and if the student has family members already in college or with a degree. The review panel consisted of at least two people not from the home district. Seventy qualified applicants from 10 districts were considered.

Students come together for the first time to participate in the Summer Institute at SUNY Broome on June 23 – 26. Students in the P-TECH program begin earning college credits as ninth-graders and will earn an associate’s degree from SUNY Broome—tuition free—upon successful completion of the program.

Brock is planning to pursue civil engineering and Manuella will study health sciences. Both are very excited and recognize what an honor and opportunity this program is.

We will follow their progress with great anticipation in the upcoming years.

Congratulations to Brock, Manuella and their families!
