Welcome Back, Harpursville School Community

Dear Harpursville Students, Families, and Community Members,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. There is always something special about the beginning of a new school year, the return of our students, the energy in our classrooms and hallways, and the opportunity to build on the progress we have made together.

Over the last three years, Harpursville has worked to strengthen the educational experience we provide our students. We continue to see positive growth in literacy and mathematics while improving the ways we identify and respond to individual student needs. Our literacy work has received recognition from the New York State Education Department and throughout our region. We are proud of that recognition, but even more proud of what it represents: students making progress and becoming more confident learners.

Our Summer Enrichment Program was another highlight this year. Our students seemed to have a lot of fun participating in a variety of activities and experiences throughout the summer. At the same time, we grew our summer literacy program and incorporated literacy instruction into the enrichment program, allowing more students to continue building important reading skills. Thank you to our families and to everyone who worked throughout the summer to make these opportunities possible.

We also spent time over the last couple of months looking ahead. Through our Strategic Planning Process, students, families, community members, employees, and Board of Education members shared what they believe is going well in Harpursville and, just as importantly, where we can improve. That input is helping us develop the next stage of our Strategic Action Plan and will guide our continued improvement. Thank you to everyone who participated, including our Board members, community members, teachers, aides, transportation staff, maintenance and custodial staff, administrators, students, and families. Your perspectives are an important part of helping us make Harpursville better.

This work also positions us well as New York State moves forward with its new educational initiatives, InspireNY and Portrait of a Graduate. Rather than starting over, we will build upon the good work already taking place in our schools while continuing to look for ways to better prepare our students for success after graduation.

Most importantly, we are excited to have our students back. In the coming weeks, I look forward to seeing our students and families at our opening events and orientations, as well as seeing our community come together again at fall sporting events and other school activities. These events are an important part of the school experience and a great reminder of the strong connection between our schools and the Harpursville community.

As we begin the year, our students will have many opportunities to learn, participate, compete, perform, explore new interests, and become involved in their schools. We want every student to feel connected and to have opportunities that help them grow and succeed.

Thank you to our parents and families for the trust you place in us, to our community for its continued support, and to our students for the energy and purpose they bring to our schools.

We know there is always more work to do, and that is part of continuous improvement. We are excited about the year ahead and about continuing to move Harpursville forward together.
