Metamorphosis Project Brings Together Students Across Grade Levels

Posted Date: 07/16/26 (12:43 PM)

Before the completion of the school year, Ms. Mignerey’s second grade class teamed up with students from Ms. Thomas’ senior high Creative Writing class and Ms. Keeler’s Studio Art classes for a creative project inspired by Franz Kafka’s short story titled "The Metamorphosis." Working together, students imagined what they would like to wake up as, then wrote and illustrated original stories inspired by Kafka's story. The collaboration gave students a chance to learn from one another, share their creativity, and bring their imaginations to life.

Throughout the project, the second-grade students visited the high school several times, working alongside high school students who helped them develop ideas and type their stories. In Ms. Keeler’s art room, students learned about perspective and artistic techniques to bring their imaginative transformations to life visually.

This project was first introduced at Harpursville in 2010 through a collaboration among former teachers Mrs. Green, Mrs. Rossie-Ashbaugh, and Ms. Thomas.

We are excited to share our students work with the Harpursville school community. Click this link to read our students writing pieces, view their artwork and see images from the collaboration:
