11.9.21 HCS Remote Instruction Notice
November 9, 2021

Dear HCS School Community:

Good afternoon.  I am writing with an important message about the need for us to move to remote instruction.  Due to significant impacts on staff and students from COVID and after consultation with the Broome County Health Department, we are moving to remote instruction for all on-campus students in grades Pre-K to 12 beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, November 10th through Tuesday, November 23rd.   This means that students will need to engage in remote instruction for the next two weeks and, hopefully, we’ll be able to resume regular in-person instruction after the Thanksgiving break.   I know we were all hoping that these situations would be behind us this year, but unfortunately, we are forced to make this decision in the best interest of everyone’s health and safety.

The district will offer food pick-up each day, Monday-Friday, between 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the elementary school loading dock.   Just swing down the driveway behind the elementary cafeteria and our food service staff will deliver the food to your vehicle.  Be advised, this year’s food service guidelines only allow us to provide one day of food for each student at the pick-up time.  Finally, be reminded that this Thursday is a holiday in observation of Veteran’s Day and, therefore, there will not be a food pick-up on that day.

Special education students that participate in full-day programs at off-campus locations will still attend their program and the district will provide transportation, as normal.

Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of the school administrators.  Best wishes for everyone’s health, safety, and well-being.

Respectfully,
Mr. Michael Rullo
Superintendent of Schools
