Wanted: Residents to serve on study groups-Two opportunities available

Addressing our capital project needs

The Harpursville Central School District Board of Education is looking for residents interested in participating in a work group that will review a proposed capital project.

The capital project envisioned would create a new transportation facility, address traffic safety issues at the existing campus, enhance student pick-up and drop-off points, and increase general and handicapped parking spaces.

Working with the project management team, the residents group will review existing plans and provide input to help develop the best-possible project for board review and eventual approval. The goal will be to offer a final project for public referendum in the fall of 2015.

Work group meetings will be conducted during daytime and evening hours to accommodate the schedules of the group. It is expected that meetings will last approximately one to two and a half hours. The first meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., April 15, in the Jr. Sr. High School library. Subsequent meetings are tentatively scheduled as follows: 6 p.m. May 13, 12 p.m. June 17, 6 p.m. July 15, and 12 p.m. August 5. Additional meetings may be scheduled as necessary. Meeting times are subject to change depending on the needs of the work group.

Choosing a new principal

The Board of Education is also looking for parents and residents interested in joining a committee that will conduct a formal search to fill the position of principal at the W.A. Olmsted Elementary School.

Committee members will work collaboratively with the school board and members of the school community to create a profile of the desired principal. The committee will provide important feedback on prospective candidates to the superintendent of schools, who will then recommend a candidate for board consideration. This group will include eight parents and eight non-parent residents. Only one member per household will be allowed to serve and all must be a resident of the Harpursville Central School District.

Meetings will be conducted during both daytime and evening hours to accommodate the schedules of the group. Meetings are expected to last approximately one and a half to two and a half hours. The first meeting is schedule for 6 p.m. on April 16 in the Jr. Sr. High School auditorium.  Subsequent meeting dates and times will be established at the first session.
