On April 21, 2016 law enforcement officers around the state will participate in Operation Safe Stop Day. During "Safe Stop," police officers are on board school buses and in marked and unmarked patrol units on selected bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints.
Police issue tickets to drivers who pass stopped school buses (Section 1174 of the Vehicle & Traffic Law). All violations are reported to a central command post so that final figures are available to state and local officials as well as the media.
In Harpursville, we will not have officers on board buses but they will be on active patrols throughout the district.
