Excelsior Scholarship Information

NYS Scholarships for Academic Excellence 

Students will be nominated by the high school based on their class rank.   Scholarships will be available to award recipients pending the appropriation of State funds during the 2023 session of the NYS Legislature. 

April Deadline –

Binghamton Pride Coalition: This will be presented to a graduating senior in the Southern Tier of New York. Graduates must be attending an accredited secondary program after graduation, could be a trade school, university, etc. Deadline: April 22, 2024


Mandy Middleton Community Service Award: This will be presented to graduating senior based off of the applicant’s volunteer service in the Town of Colesville. This is in memory of Mandy Middleton who volunteered MANY hours in this community. Deadline: April 26, 2024


Tess Savage Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is for a graduating senior who is planning to enter the field of early childhood education and/or the human services field. This scholarship is created in memory of Tess (Butts) Savage, a graduate in the class of 1994 at Harpursville.


Richard Shay Human Services Award: Family & Children’s Counseling Services offers a $500 college scholarship to a graduating senior who intends to pursue a career in human services, counseling, law, criminal justice, or a related field. https://familycs.org/about/richard-shay-award/ Deadline: April 30, 2024


May Deadline –


Jessie H. Baker Educational Fund Scholarship: This scholarship is for Broome County residents. The maximum amount of the annual scholarship grant to be awarded to any one recipient is $5,000, preference will be given to low-income families. Deadline: May 1, 2024


Peyton Shaw Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is in memory of Peyton Shaw. To be considered for this scholarship you must demonstrate an active role in athletics, academics and community, and pursuing a degree in Child Development, Education or a related field. Deadline: May 1, 2024


Junior League of Binghamton Mariana Schneider Maloy Scholarship: This scholarship is for female students attending a two or four year college beginning in the fall of 2024. A $1,000 award will be given to a young woman who has made volunteerism and community service a priority in her life. Deadline: May 1, 2024


Naomi L. Dyer Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is for one graduating high school female senior who plans to obtain a degree in a STEM related field or elementary education. Must be attending SUNY Oneonta or Binghamton University. Deadline: May 10, 2024


Sgt. Lawrence D. Peters Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.: This scholarship is in memory of Binghamton native Marine Sgt. Lawrence David Peters. This is for graduating Broome County high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of veterans who are residents of Broome County or were at the time of their death. (This application needs to be mailed) Deadline: May 15, 2024


Harpursville Youth Sports Scholarship: This scholarship will be awarded to senior who has participated in an HYSA, HYB and/or

HYCA sports program and has donated their time and talents back to help the HYSA. This is in memory of Tracie Livermore by

the Harpursville Youth Civic Association. Deadline: May 17, 2024


Progressive Dental Community Scholarship: This scholarship is to recognize and support high school seniors who demonstrate both academic excellence and a strong commitment to community service. Five students will be selected to receive $500 each to assist them in pursuing their college education. Deadline: May 17, 2024


PTO Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to eight graduating seniors. To be eligible you must have completed two hours of volunteer time during EACH of your 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years. The volunteer time can be from any school or community program, but cannot be used at the same time for graduation requirements or course credits. Deadline: May 31, 2024



BOCES Adult Education Scholarships: Broome-Tioga BOCES annually offers each component school district one adult education

scholarship for a student who graduated the previous June and is interested in enrolling in a September adult education course.

Deadline: May 31, 2024


June Deadline –

Jim Bryden Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is for college-bound and trade school-bound students pursuing a career in the fields related to historic preservation, such as architecture, urban planning, construction, etc. This can be up to $2,000 scholarships to area seniors. Deadline: June 1, 2024


No Deadline –

GHS / New York Credit Union Association Scholarship: This scholarship is available to high school seniors who are planning to attend a two or four year accredited educational institution or vocational/trade school in the fall of 2024. Those applying must also be a member of GHS Federal Credit Union.
