Students need to be practicing their multiplication facts nightly. Each week, students take daily fact practice tests. One test per week counts toward their report card grade. Please help your student practice their facts regularly. By the end of third grade, they should have mastery of their single digit multiplication facts through 100. Students should be able to answer 100 facts in 5 minutes. In fourth grade, students will work on improving their rate of speed to 100 facts within 2 and a half minutes.
In Writing Workshop, students are using the writing process to develop their understanding of paragraph writing. Students are using correct paragraph form and including a topic sentence, detail sentences, and a closing sentence in their writing. As we progress through the year, third graders will be expected to write in paragraph form independently, creating writing samples with multiple paragraphs.
Students in third grade are currently studying a variety of Biographies. Students will be researching a person of interest and reporting on them in class. During this time, Writing Workshop and Reading Workshop will overlap so that students are able to read and write about their chosen person.
